Ingredients:
- 1 Tomahawk steak (at least 2 inches thick)
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh thyme sprigs
- Cast iron skillet
Instructions:
-
Remove the steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about an hour before cooking.
-
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
Season the steak generously with salt and pepper on both sides.
-
Heat a cast iron skillet over high heat. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil to the pan.
-
Once the pan is hot, add the steak and sear for 3-4 minutes on each side. Make sure to sear the edges as well to render the fat.
-
Add 2 tablespoons of butter to the pan along with the minced garlic and thyme sprigs. Baste the steak with the melted butter using a spoon.
-
Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and cook for 10-12 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches your desired doneness. Here are some temperature guidelines for steak doneness:
- Rare: 125°F (52°C)
- Medium rare: 135°F (57°C)
- Medium: 145°F (63°C)
- Medium well: 155°F (68°C)
- Well done: 160°F (71°C)
-
Once the steak is cooked to your liking, remove the skillet from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
-
Serve the steak with your favorite side dishes and enjoy!
