Tomahawk Steak Recipe

Tomahawk steak is a thick-cut ribeye steak with a long bone attached, resembling a tomahawk. Here's a simple recipe to prepare a delicious tomahawk steak:

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tomahawk steak (at least 2 inches thick)
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh thyme sprigs
  • Cast iron skillet

Instructions:

  1. Remove the steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about an hour before cooking.

  2. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  3. Season the steak generously with salt and pepper on both sides.

  4. Heat a cast iron skillet over high heat. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil to the pan.

  5. Once the pan is hot, add the steak and sear for 3-4 minutes on each side. Make sure to sear the edges as well to render the fat.

  6. Add 2 tablespoons of butter to the pan along with the minced garlic and thyme sprigs. Baste the steak with the melted butter using a spoon.

  7. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and cook for 10-12 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches your desired doneness. Here are some temperature guidelines for steak doneness:

    • Rare: 125°F (52°C)
    • Medium rare: 135°F (57°C)
    • Medium: 145°F (63°C)
    • Medium well: 155°F (68°C)
    • Well done: 160°F (71°C)
  8. Once the steak is cooked to your liking, remove the skillet from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.

  9. Serve the steak with your favorite side dishes and enjoy!
